Each month under the darkening light of the Waning Moon, I pull cards from The Storm Cloud Oracle to guide us through the coming weeks. After the Dark Moon, a time of dark skies, rest and reflection, the next lunar cycle begins afresh.

For each Dark Moon reading, I pull one card for the collective, a theme for the month, and another for each Zodiac sign. Together they offer insight, wisdom and guidance for the curious and the questioning.

These are your messages from the storm.

The card for all

The Sacred Heart

As January unfolds and the year turns quietly on its axis, The Sacred Heart steps forward as our guide.

The world may feel cold, sharp and demanding, full of thorns and hard edges, but this card reminds us that softness is not weakness.

You do not need to harden yourself to survive the year ahead. You do not need to become sharper, louder or more ruthless to be resilient. Let compassion be your strength. Let tenderness be your rebellion.

For now: soften, open, and remember - the world does not need another hardened heart.

Aquarius - The Double-Edged Sword

Reading: The Double-Edged Sword asks you to use your head over your heart, to weigh decisions carefully. But paired with The Sacred Heart, I wonder if the decision is already made - one you feel conflicted about.
If so, dear Aquarius, open your heart to the beauty, joy, and possibility this choice could bring. Step into it with love and kindness as your default mode, and it won’t simply turn out to be a good thing, you will make it so.

Pisces - The Swarm

Reading: January can feel like a lot, especially after rest - or worse, after no rest at all. The Swarm reflects overwhelm, noise, and the pressure to keep up.
Paired with The Sacred Heart, this is your permission to retreat inward. You don’t need to renew, refresh or transform on anyone else’s schedule. Think about what brings you joy. Choose the things you love. You are allowed to design your own life - you don’t have to move with the crowd.

Aries - The Evil Eye

Reading: The Evil Eye warns of jealousy, envy, or comparison - whether it’s coming from others, or from within yourself.
With The Sacred Heart, the message is clear: time spent coveting someone else’s life is time stolen from your own. Be kind to yourself. If someone has something you want, it only proves that it’s possible. Your life doesn’t need to look like theirs, or even like the version you once imagined, to be wonderful.

Taurus - The Toadstool

Reading: The Toadstool encourages you to be the change you want to see. Paired with The Sacred Heart, the message doubles in strength.
If you want kindness, offer it. If you want hope, create it. If the state of the world feels heavy, do something small and good that makes a difference. Don’t sink into hopelessness, your actions matter more than you think. Quiet goodness still ripples outward.

Gemini - The Crow

Reading: The Crow reminds us that what we put into the world is what returns to us. Crows remember kindness, and they remember cruelty too.
With The Sacred Heart, you’re asked to lead with compassion. If you’re holding a grudge, be the one who loosens your grip. If all you give is bitterness, that’s what echoes back. Choose love, even when it feels difficult. Especially then.

Cancer - The Lightning Bolt

Reading: The Lightning Bolt urges you to ride the wave of energy that’s coming rather than fearing it.
Paired with The Sacred Heart, this suggests a powerful surge of positivity and emotional clarity. Don’t resist it. Let it move through you. Channel it creatively, lovingly and with heartfelt intention. This is energy meant for growth, not destruction, so take hold.

Leo - The Dark Moon

Reading: The Dark Moon was our collective card last month - a sign of deep rest and winter quiet. Its return for you suggests you didn’t get the rest you truly needed, or you’re already asking too much of yourself again.
With The Sacred Heart, the message is gentle but firm: be kind to yourself. Treat your time and energy as something precious. Ask yourself - would you expect this much from someone you love?

Virgo - The Toad

Reading: The Toad brings a warning against perfectionism. Everything does not need to be flawless. You do not need to get it all right.
Paired with The Sacred Heart, this is a reminder to soften your standards - especially the ones you turn inward. Be kind to yourself. You would never demand this level of perfection from someone you love. You deserve the same grace.

Libra - The Witch

Reading: The Witch reminds you that you are powerful - capable of change, creation and transformation.
But with The Sacred Heart beside her, the message is clear: true power is rooted in love, not resentment. If you want something to change, it can. But begin with compassion - for yourself first. Lead with love, and the world will move with you.

Scorpio - The Poisoned Chalice

Reading: The Poisoned Chalice speaks of bitterness, old wounds, grudges or emotional toxins you’ve been carrying for too long.
Paired with The Sacred Heart, this is a call to stop drinking from what harms you. Choose healing over revenge. Compassion over festering pain. You don’t have to excuse what hurt you - but you don’t need to keep swallowing it either.

Sagittarius - The Coffin

Reading: The Coffin asks you to lay something to rest: an old version of yourself, a regret, a resentment, a feud. You already know what it is.
With The Sacred Heart, this ending is tender, not brutal. Look back with compassion - at who you were, or who hurt you. They were a chapter, not the whole story. Release them. There is space now for something kinder to grow.

Capricorn - The Black Sheep

Reading: The Black Sheep asks you to lean into what sets you apart. Love it. Celebrate it. Paired with The Sacred Heart, this is about self-acceptance without apology. Be kind to your difference. Be compassionate toward your own strangeness. The very thing that made you feel out of place is often the thing that makes you magic.
